TUG OF WAR AT BEAUTY BAR NYC, 2018

TUG OF WAR AT BEAUTY BAR NYC, 2018

Description: Site-specific performance on 14th Street to Union Square reminiscent of a public protest march with banners and signs. Set within a tense political climate in the USA after the hearing and the nomination at supreme court of judge Brett Kavanaugh, I choreographed a “Tug of War” game after the march led by my troupe of urban women warriors, Legacy Fatale, as a metaphorical dialectic playing with old fashioned terms used at the Senate, “Yae” and “Nay”, a continuous push and pull in political rooms. Staged at The Beauty Bar, one of the last remaining staples of East Village culture resisting gentrification, I then presented a curated ensemble a punk aesthetics with a signature performance by my troupe Legacy Fatale “Punk Bundle” and a music collaboration by Nico Mazet of experimental noise band Sister Iodine, ending with a musical act by lazy punk band What Would Tilda Swinton Do. Costume collaboration collection by Elisa Jimenez of Hunger World, the avant-garde punk designer for Courtney Love.

PANATHENAIA

May 2019

Description: A public participatory performance happening designed with immersive preparatory workshops for adults and children. PANATHENAIA takes direct reference from an ancient popular Greek festival in ancient Athens designed as performance happening with notions of communal worship, animism, intergenerational transfer, ritual processions and movement. Originally, this festival was dedicated to Athena, the goddess of war, fertility, arts and wisdom. It included games, festive gatherings, poetry and music competitions. In the main Panatheic procession, a special robe was made by the women of Athens which was carried to the Parthenon and presented to the olive wood statue of Goddess Athena. The whole festival would bring unity among the people.

Starting with initiative workshops by hypnotherapist Shauna Cummins and vocal coach Siw Laurent, the public was invited to a experience a transpersonal emotional landscape within the group while exploring issues of inclusiveness, self-awareness and identity. A procession led by the intergenerational troupe of adults and children in Legacy Fatale was taken to the lake to conduct a "fire and water ceremony” involving the 4 elements of water, air, fire and earth, a ritual reminiscent of ancient traditions invoking notions of purification with nature in a triangular relationship of body, mind, spirit.
