“THE PENCIL OF WEIGHTLESSNESS” or “MY AMERICAN TREE”
2004-2008
Limited editions photographs
Influenced by serialist art and the extensive systematic documentation and typology in the photographic works of Hilda and Bernd Becher, this series is documenting the singularity of urban and secluded trees found during my wandering the streets of New York City and along my local and continental travels in the USA, from the infamous Tompkins Square to Upstate New York and the national parks in Utah, Arizona and Colorado, followed by some of my travels to France. This first photographic series accomplished after my abstract painting studies at the Art Student’s League of New York, marks my early years in the USA and represents my daily visual logs looking up at the sky looking for meaning in abstract narratives through the lens of a foreigner.
